The members of Three Continents Ensemble are Fred Grenade (electric bass), Leonardo Susi (drums) and Andreas Günther (keys). The three musicians met in Shanghai, China, where they used to work together as a part of the local music scene.
Playing original jazz style compositions they have a direct and intuitive sound.
In 2019 they performed concerts in Germany featuring additional soloists like Oliver Fox (soprano sax) and Alex Gibson (trumpet).
Leonardo Susi is a professional drummer and percussionist from Brazil with 27 years of experience in playing and recording with great musicians and bands from around the world such as John Legend, Laura Figgy, DD Bridgewater, Toninho Horta, Filó Machado, Gilberto Gil, Charles Aznavour, Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Balaio Quartet. In China, Leonardo works with many local artists of the jazz scene, pop artists and tv shows such as The Voice of China, Chinese Idol, Sing My Song. The instrumental quartet Balaio was founded by him in 2009. They just finished a world tour with the great and legendary trumpet player Randy Brecker, an icon of world music, who has performed at the greatest jazz venues in Europe and Asia, such as Ronnie Scott in London, Blue Note in Milan, North Sea Jazz Bar in Amsterdam, Lantaren Venster in Rotterdam, Scala Theater in Stockholm, Bravo Caffe in Bologna, Blue Note Beijing, Shanghai JZ Jazz Festival, Guanzhou Jazz Gestival, Taipei jazz festival. In 2018, his band Balaio launched their first album with specials guests, like Mike Stern, Zeca Baleiro, Randy Brecker, Nils Landgren and more.
Fred Grenade is an electric bass player from the island of Mauritius deep in the Indian Ocean, born with rhythm at the tip of his fingers. Since 2007 he is currently based in Shanghai, China, where he is an important part of the local music scene. He performs in different festivals and clubs as well as doing jobs as a studio musician. He has played with the Indian sitar player Purbayan Chatterjee, with Chinese pop star Yao Bei Na. Fred often can be seen on stage with Lawrence Ku Trio, Alec Haavik, Polymorph Extra, La Petite Günther Band, the rapper Lu1 and many others.
Andreas Günther is a German piano and saxophone player based in Hamburg. He used to live in Shanghai for several years. Being part of the local music scene during that time he met Fred Grenade and Leonardo Susi and performed together with Shanghai based bands like Chekov, Sonic Sisters, JZ Big Band, Alec Haarvik Friction 5, Red Groove Project and The Polymorph Extra. In 2018 he did concerts and festivals in Japan, China, Bosnia, Macedonia and Germany, together with the artists Yordan Kostov, Dine Doneff, Ayako Kanda and more.
